Are plastic pallets hygienic enough for food storage?

We're a food distribution company in Dubai and we supply fresh produce and packaged goods to supermarkets across the UAE, so hygiene and cleanliness are absolutely critical for us. Our current wooden pallets are causing us some serious headaches because they're impossible to properly clean and sanitize, they absorb moisture and spills, and I've even found mold growing on some of them which is obviously a huge health risk. I've been researching alternatives because I want to switch to something that can be easily washed and sanitized between uses. I came across a Premium Plastic Pallets supplier in UAE that claims their pallets are food-grade and designed for easy cleaning with no hidden crevices where bacteria can hide, which sounds perfect for our needs . The pallets are made from HDPE which is supposed to be non-porous and resistant to moisture, chemicals, and bacteria growth, but I'm skeptical about how well they actually hold up to repeated washing and cleaning. Has anyone in the food industry made the switch to plastic pallets and found them easier to keep clean? Do they really not harbor bacteria the way wood does? And how durable are they with frequent pressure washing and sanitizing? I'm willing to invest in better equipment if it genuinely improves our food safety standards, but I need some evidence that it's worth the investment.
